Discovering Velleminfroy

Velleminfroy is located in the heart of the southern Vosges catchment basin, in the Department of Haute-Saône (70) in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. This tiny village of 301 inhabitants is situated between the towns of Lure and Vesoul.

As you leave the village and head towards Creuse, be sure to stop and see the spring and its surrounding area. In this haven of tranquillity, generous nature reigns supreme. The dense and luxuriant forest stand on the edge of a small valley. Here, the charms of the bountiful fauna and flora are all around, and it is not uncommon to come across wild animals during a stroll. Deep in the forest, the sound of running water is a constant companion, and the spring itself is so enchanting that it is impossible to remain unmoved. The river “La Colombine” completes the beauty of this aptly named “Green Paradise”. This welcoming landscape is the ideal place to recharge your batteries. It is in this unspoilt spot that you will find the source of Velleminfroy springs…

The hamlet of Château-Grenouille is located less than 1 km to the south of the village of Velleminfroy. Built in 1832, this former coach staging post was associated with the development and popularity of the spring as it provided accommodation for the first visitors who came here to take the waters. Originally known as “Hôtellerie du Bois Joli”, it was later renamed “Château-Grenouille”. After the war of 1914, it lost its “Château de” appellation.

In the 1930s, advertisements stated that it was “close to the Velleminfroy mineral water spring”.

In 1950, the house was taken over by the Rénet family. In the hamlet’s restaurant, bottles of Velleminfroy water were given to customers free of charge.
